Reflect
Reflection is a critical part of the creation cycle and typically the one most often overlooked. Your leaders and employees must turn inward and nourish their minds, bodies and spirits in order to sustain the rigors of corporate life. Stress is one of the leading issues cited by employees for leaving a particular position. In fact, 40% of job turnover is due to stress. Reducing the stresses felt by every employee, from CEO to receptionist, will prove to be the best investment for your organization. By employing easy-to-implement, low-cost reflection exercises, you and your employees will be less stressed, more productive and ready to create anew. You will encourage the hearts of everyone within your organization by allowing time and space for reflection.
Issue: This stressed and burnt out founding partner needed to recharge and rejuvenate in order to meet his family’s, client’s, employee’s and company’s requirements. |
| Resolution: We educated the partner on the importance of relaxation and rejuvenation. We supported our claims with actual results and combined this with input and feedback from his employees. Once this partner understood and accepted the importance of rejuvenation, we began work on designing a program of health and stress reduction. We tapped into our networks for physicians, fitness, yoga, massage, chiropractic and acupuncture. (He required every area of support). As he was gaining health and wellness, we coached him on ways to balance the work/life requirements. It was a long process, but we can successfully report that today, he is healthy, runs an extremely successful consulting practice, and balances his work and family life. |
Workplace stress continues to grow. In the U.S., experts at the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health are dedicated to studying stress. They’ve found:
- Stress is linked to physical and mental health, as well as decreased willingness to take on new and creative endeavors.
- Job burnout experienced by 25% to 40% of U.S. workers is blamed on stress.
- More than ever before, employee stress is being recognized as a major drain on corporate productivity and competitiveness.
- Depression, only one type of stress reaction, is predicted to be the leading occupational disease of the 21st century, responsible for more days lost than any other single factor.
- $300 billion, or $7,500 per employee, is spent annually in the U.S. on stress-related compensation claims, reduced productivity, absenteeism, health insurance costs, direct medical expenses (nearly 50% higher for workers who report stress), and employee turnover.
When reducing stress, you open the mind to insight, creativity and innovation. This is when those epiphanies occur and successful ideas are born.
We have designed an Elite Idea™ module that is based upon our Transformational Idea Generation phase within The Edge™. It is so successful; we decided to offer it as a separate module.
Elite Idea™
Foster those innovative ideas from everyone within your organization. The post-it® by 3-M was designed out of a mistake in manufacturing; the RAZR by Motorola was designed without any budgetary or corporate constraints. Generate brilliant ideas for your organization. Then, allow your teams the space to create and your company will go to a whole new level.
Issue: The creative team within this company was burned out and under significant stress to perform. |
| Resolution: We gained the faith and trust of the CEO of the organization and were able to remove every requirement and constraint from this team – other than create! We then trained the on our approach to generate ideas. In an extremely short period of time, a new service was conceived, designed, implemented at ‘test sites’ and marketed nationally. Today, the company is being extremely well received by the marketplace. We look forward to supporting this company when expanding into the international market. |
